Art In ME 2018 Juror: Connie Hayes

 

Connie Hayes is a painter living in Rockland, Maine. She received her M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, and Rome; her B.F.A. from the Maine College of Art in Portland; and her B.A. from the University of Maine. She received a fellowship to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1989. Born in Gardiner, Maine she taught at the Maine College of Art for 10 years, also participating in arts administration there for 15 years, including serving as their interim Dean of Faculty. In 2003 she was awarded an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the Maine College of Art. From 1992-1998 she lived in New York City. Since 1990 she has been painting on location through her Borrowed Views project and developing figurative work in her Rockland Studio. She serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Farnsworth Art Museum. Connie is honored to serve as the juror for Art In ME for the second time, the last time being in 2012. Connie’s expertise as a teacher and artist gives her a unique perspective in the way she thoughtfully responds to the work submitted for jurying.

Our juror will make selections based on the digital submissions. BRAF staff will contact artists whose work is accepted via email.

Submission of my entry fee constitutes my understanding and agreement to the juried show guidelines and to the following conditions:

All work submitted is my own original art.

My entry fee is non-refundable.

If my work sells BRAF takes a commission of 35% and have priced my work accordingly.

I grant BRAF permission to use images of my artwork and/or my name for promoting this exhibition and/or BRAF, in print, broadcast and online media and marketing materials.

I understand that insurance coverage of artwork in the care of BRAF may be limited and I agree not to hold BRAF or its officers or employees liable for any loss or damage.

Step 2 — attach .jpg images (electronic picture files) of your art to your email after reading instructions below and send your complete submission to: brafimages@gmail.com

Submit one JPEG image per 2D work of art for consideration by the juror. Each artist may submit up to two works of art. Three-dimensional submissions may include up to three views of the artwork . Do not paste these jpegs into the body of your email. They must be attachments.

Images should be around 1 megabyte in size; recommended pixel around 900 width or height, but not to exceed 1,800 in either dimension. Do not send thumbnails.

Image files must be named as follows:

We must receive your entry fee on or before the deadline or your entry will not be considered. The entry fee is $15 per piece ($30 for two pieces) for current members of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation, or $20 per piece ($40 for two pieces) for non-members.

Art in ME Juried Exhibit Rules

 Eligible Work & Artists — open to all full and part-time residents of Maine. Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and sculpture. Photographs or photographically produced (digital or traditional black and white) Images are not accepted. Each artist may submit up to two works of art, which must be the artist’s own original work created within the last three years. Any work that has been previously exhibited at Boothbay Region Art Foundation is not eligible. Giclees and other reproductions are not eligible.

Entry fees are not refundable and the decision of our juror is final. All works entered must be original creations by the artist and must be show-ready upon delivery to the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery. Work that is different from the submitted entry will not be exhibited.

Original Art Only — Only original or originally printed works will be admitted; photocopies, color, or computer generated copies are not acceptable for entry. Giclee reproductions are not eligible.

Diptychs and Triptychs — (works created in two or three sections) will be considered and judged as one entry.

New Mediums — Contemporary work is welcome. In the case of work with video, mechanic, or sonic elements, the artist must provide all necessary equipment for the jurors to properly experience the work (to be viewed in person by the juror at BRAF), and then that equipment must be available for the full duration of the exhibition if the work is accepted.

New Work Please — Works submitted must have been created during the last three years. Work accepted into a previous Art In ME show, or otherwise shown at BRAF is not eligible.

Framing — All 2 dimensional entries, with the exception of oils and acrylics, must be framed with either glass or plexiglass. Unframed canvases are fine, as long as they are gallery wrapped (no staples visible). Frames and canvases must be wired and ready to hang (ie. with two eye screws and steel wire. Sawtooth hangers , “clip” frames or unstable frames will not be accepted.

Size Limits — 2 dimensional work may not exceed 4′ in either length or width, including frame. Sculptural work must fit through a standard doorway. Pedestals with up to 15″ x 15″ display space are available, or the artist may supply their own. Please be aware that storage space is limited and artists submitting large scale work must commit to retrieve it on one of the pick up dates should the work not be included in the final exhibition. Maximum frame size is 48” x 48”. Three dimensional work cannot exceed 7’ in height or weigh more than 50 lbs.

Our jurors are individuals of distinction and reputation from the Maine art world who focus on putting together a cohesive and compelling show based on their own professional but subjective judgment. Only a portion of the work submitted will be included in the final exhibition. Juror decisions are final.

The Boothbay Region Art Foundation is a 501(C)(3). We are a membership based non-profit organization. Juried show entry fees help us pay for the cost of putting on this exhibition to benefit all participants and are not refundable.
